Artist Baton
◆ Your name?
Crystalline, Crystal, Crys, Snail, Snailor, Snaillians.
◆ If possible, your age?
Sixteen.
◆ When did you start drawing?
When I was a youngin'. But I didn't get 'serious' about being an artiste until the end of my 6th grade career. I don't know how I reached such an epiphany at such a time, but I did, and TA-DA.
◆ Which hand do you use for drawing?
Right.
◆ Which is easier to draw - male or female?
Well, I normally draw girls, and occasionally a lad or two, but mostly I try to keep things generally androgynous. And, since I draw ladies most of the time, I guess that's easier.
◆ Which is easier to draw - long hair or short hair?
Short. I feel that generally, my drawings with short hair look the best. Long hair is cool, but it doesn't really give off the right vibe sometimes.
◆ Is it easier to draw the head facing towards the right or the left?
Facing the left. Right is hard for me.
◆ Is it easier to draw the side view of the face or the front view?
It depends on the drawing. Sometimes a profile would turn out horrible even though it's easier, but the front view would be perfect. So it's hard to say.
◆ What do you have problems in drawing?
Facial expressions and anatomically correct bodies.
That's why I always draw poor, lonely, disembodied heads.
◆ What do you like to draw?
People. Always people.
◆ Are you a traditional artist or a digital artist?
Traditional.
◆ Where do you start drawing from?
An idea or a sketch. Or both.
◆ What is your drawing habit that you are aware of?
I get absorbed. I have a hard time talking when hardcore focused on a doodle.
◆ Any tips for coloring/shading?
Layers are key. Layers layers layers.
Never ever use just one shade of a color.
If you are coloring something blue, add some green or some purple, depending on the effect desired for that drawing.
◆ How long does it take to finish a piece of art?
It varies by motivation, size of drawing, etc.
◆ What music do you listen to while you draw?
Just the stuff on my MP3 player or projectplaylist.
◆ How long does it take you to come up with an idea?
That varies as well. Sometimes one will slither right into my brain, other times I have to catch it myself with a net.
◆ Your favorite drawing utensils?
Pens, colored pencils, markers and watercolors. Watercolors I use rarely, but when I do, I almost always like the effect.
◆ Your favorite color/the color that you use a lot?
I have a tendency to use a lot of reds, yellows, oranges and browns. Fall shades. Either that, or blues and greens and purples and the like. Depending on the drawing.
◆ Your favorite style(s)?
Anything original. Anything new. Anything different.
◆ What kind of artist are you aiming for?
The awesome kind.
◆ Thank you.
